Signing Up & Accessing Your Account

Top

  1. You must sign up before you will be able to build, edit or upload new web pages.
  2. Click MY ACCOUNT to login and access your account. You will need to know your email address and password to login.

 Page Credits

Top

You must purchase "page credits" before you can begin building your website.

TIP: Plan your website on paper BEFORE you begin building. Then purchase the number of pages you anticipate you will need to complete your site ( you can purchase more pages at any time).

You will want a consistent “look” to your site, so once you create a skeleton HOME page and add links to all your “back pages,” you can copy this layout to every page on your site. This is how a site is laid out, without having to re-add logos and navigation links to the back pages over and over again. How to copy pages is explained further down under CREATE NEW PAGES, #1.

IMPORTANT: Once you purchase pages do not delete them. If you mess up or want to start over on your layout or design, delete the content within the page. Deleted pages are not retrievable or redeemable, so please exercise caution.

Transferring Accounts

Top

Transferring accounts is free, if you build a site for someone else. Simply login to your account, make any necessary changes (i.e. replace personal information), then provide the login information to the other party.

You must inform the other party that there is a small annual fee to store web pages on server for editing and uploading. The current fee is $9.99/year, and we reserve the right to change fees.

Custom Web Services

Top

We provide quality custom web building services at a low flat rate of $35/page, with up to 5 to 10 products per page. We are always happy to provide you with samples of sites we have built.

Uploading Images

Top

You will need to upload any images you intend to use in your web pages, prior to building web pages. It is a fairly easy procedure, and you can always add more images later, as needed.

  1. Access your File Manager, then click “images” in the top, left-hand column.
  2. Click “Upload File” and browse to the image’s location.
  3. Click the image name to add it to the field for uploading.

Important: SCROLL RIGHT TO THE END OF THE FIELD and make sure each image name you upload ends with a lowercase .gif or .jpg. If the extension appears in uppercase (.GIF), simply change it to lower case (.gif), then enter to upload.

  4. Repeat this with every image you will be using to build your web pages. The images will remain stored for future use, once you complete this task.
  5. When finished uploading your images, click “Up One Level” to return to the File Manager main page.

Two Common Errors & Easy Solutions:

-Error 1: Please select a file to upload. (No Greater than 60720bytes).
-Solution: Usually uploads if you try a 2nd time.

-Error 2: The File Name you have specified is illegal...
-Solution: Change the file extension to .gif or .jpg in the BROWSE field.

Creating New Pages

Top

  1. At the bottom of the File Manager’s main page click Create New File. Start by creating ONLY your home page (don't create your other pages until you have read Design Tips below, where we provide some BIG time saving information).
  2. We provide a few simple templates to assist our beginners with columns and row layouts. You can also choose to start with a Blank Page template.
  3. After selecting a template, enter your page name where it says “Save File As,” then click “OK” to save the page.

Always name your home page "index" (no quotations.

You will then be returned to the main File Manager page to create more pages or begin working on the page you created.

REMINDER:  You must prepay for pages before you can build them. To purchase additional pages, click MY ACCOUNT at the very top right of the page, then select “Purchase Additional Pages.”

Design & Layout Tips

Top

In most cases you will want every page of your website to have the same basic layout with the same logo and navigation links, right?

With our builder, you can easily accomplish this by building your HOME PAGE first, before proceeding to your "back pages."

Create a shell page first. To do this, begin building
by adding just the basics at this point. This might include a logo, navigation links, and copyright.

You can then "Copy" your basic layout to all other pages so you don’t have to build each page from scratch and add the same links over and over. WOW! Here is how:

1.     Create a new home page and name it index (required).

2.     Click edit in the right hand column and design the basic layout that will be featured throughout your entire website (logo placement, navigation links, columns, etc.). Only add the features you want copied to all pages, at this point.

3.     Save your page from the toolbar (see SAVE Button below), if you do not know which one it is.

4.     The click “Copy” on the index.html row and a new window will open.

5.     In the new window, enter the name of the next page you wish to create an copy the index layout to, including the “.html”  extension (i.e., about_us.html, candles1.html., etc).

6.     Repeat steps 4 & 5 until you have created all the pages that will be contained in your website.

7.     When all your pages are created, you can go back and click “Edit” one page at a time, and begin laying out each page.

You will need to create the new pages that will be included in your website. Your home page must be named “index” – but you can name all other pages whatever you wish. We recommend that you keep it simple by using one or two words only. Connect two words with an underscore, as shown in the example below. Your saved pages directory in th eFile Manager may look something like this:

  • index
  • incense
  • silver_jewelry
  • candles
  • about us

TIP FOR LINKING PAGES TOGETHER:  When linking pages together, the URL you will enter is the name of the page. For example, if you want to link your index page to the incense page, the Tool Bar hyperlink function will ask you for the URL you are linking to.  You would simply enter “incense.html” (no quotation marks).

Editing Web Pages

Top

Login to your account, and go to File Manager.

Scroll down to the page you wish to edit, then in the right column click "Edit."

You will be able to edit any saved pages. Remember to save your pages often and preview them to see how they will look before uploading.

TIP: THE POWER OF THE RIGHT MOUSE CLICK: When editing your pages, never underestimate the power of the “RIGHT CLICK.”  Say you have added a bullet image preceding a navigation link such as an arrow - instead of adding the bullet over and over, you can simply right click, copy, then paste the image over an over wherever needed.

The “RIGHT CLICK” can also be used to modify tables and cells, add and delete rows and columns, and to insert a hyperlink into highlighted text or images. Experiment with the handy “RIGHT CLICK” capabilities, and you are sure to be pleasantly surprised at the time and effort you can save!

Shopping Cart

Top

First, let us say that YES, Mal’s Shopping Cart is indeed free and secure, and no, you are not required to use it.

We have utilized Mal’s as an excellent resource for years and have thus chosen to offer it as our primary shopping cart provider, with Mal’s permission, of course.  We prefer Mal’s cart ourselves because it can be set-up to safely collect credit card information and also links to Paypal with the click of a button.

The cart is UPGRADEABLE for use with many online payment gateways!  Our Web Builder provides an easy-to-use Mal’s “Buy Now” button creator, so you can quickly add products for sale to your website.

IMPORTANT: If you plan to use the Free Shopping cart, you will need to register at Mals-e.com.  When adding "buy now" links to your web store, you will then simply provide your new Mal’s USER ID and cart server information (also provided when you sign up at Mal's). We even provide a Mal’s Button Creator so you can easily create links to your shopping cart. You buyers click these links to make a purchase.
